About Diane

Diane Deans was first elected to Ottawa City Council in November 1994. In October 2014, she was re-elected to her seventh consecutive term.  She proudly represents over 48,000 south-end residents who live in Gloucester-Southgate Ward.

Diane is a graduate of the University of Guelph, Ontario, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree. Diane made Ottawa home in 1982, when she assumed the role of Executive Director of the Canadian Federation of Students, and then moved on to work on Parliament Hill.

As well as being the Gloucester-Southgate Councillor, Diane is also the Chair of the Community and Protective Services Committee which is responsible for the City’s Emergency & Protective Services (Fire & Paramedics); Bylaw Services; Parks & Recreation Services; and Social Services.

Councillor Deans is also a member of the City’s Transportation Committee, Finance and Economic Development Committee and the Member Services Committee. She is also a member of the Ottawa Community Land Development Corporation Board which is tasked with unlocking value in the City of Ottawa’s real estate portfolio through sustainable development

Previously Diane has served as Chair of the City’s Transit Commission.

Councillor Deans has been recognized for her outstanding contributions to municipal life in Ottawa in a number of ways. These include being the recipient of the City Manager’s Award for her leadership as the Honorary Co-Chair of the City’s United Way Campaign, the Ottawa Public Library’s Order of Friendship Award, and the Consumers’ Choice Woman of the Year award.
