On February 24th, a report on Stage 2 LRT will be tabled at the Finance and Economic Development Committee and at City Council on March 8. The report will include an update on significant changes to the scope of the project, information on the final alignment adjustments, the recommended procurement model and the specific activities the City will undertake to get ready to implement Stage 2.
The report also proposes an expansion of the scope of the Stage 2 LRT Project in order to extend light rail further to the West, South and East:
- Confederation Line West: beyond Bayshore to Moodie Drive, and southwest to Algonquin College;
- Confederation Line East: beyond Place d’Orleans to Trim Road;
- Trillium Line extension to Bowesville in Riverside South; and
- An Airport Rail Link from South Keys Station on the Trillium Line.
The total proposed work is now estimated to cost approximately $3.6 billion in combined work.
The extent of work being proposed will now require a 16 month shutdown of the Trillium Line to allow all construction, rehabilitation, testing and commissioning to occur. Replacement bus service as well as a staging area in the vicinity of Bayview Station will be required to replace O-Train service during the shutdown period.
The report proposes major changes to the project and will have significant impacts to the residents of Gloucester-Southgate Ward.
